Alonzo Kent Epperson, born July 1st 1936 in Delta Utah, and lived with his loving parents (LaMont and Reva) as well as his brother (Thornton) and sisters (Marlene and Tonie) in a small town of Bristol Silver, Nevada.  Growing up outside the city limits Kent really obtained a love for nature and later in life he became more of an outdoor enthusiast.  His favorite summer time activity was spending his days riding the Paiute Trail and he was had spent most of his retirement looking for new ATV trails across the western states.  Tuesday, September 27th, 2016 Kent found a glorious new trail that led back to his deceased wife Nancy Sue Howe and the rest of his heavenly family.  So off he went for another long ride. When his family finally ended up Salt Lake City, the found themselves on Sherman Avenue, and so Kent attended East High School where he worked on his Eagle Scout and played baseball. After graduating from East and after briefly attending the University of Utah, Kent married Nancy because “she served the best damn burgers at Artic Circle.”  Kent spent quite some time over the next couple of years taking pictures of all the little vacations he could squeeze in and always enjoyed traveling with his parents.  And living in Salt Lake of course he enjoyed skiing!  Kent served honorably in the U.S. Air Force reserves and later took to the air as he learned to fly airplanes and took some family members for rides.  Kent then chose to protect and serve his family, our friends and this wonderful community leading to a rewarding and successful career retiring from the Salt Lake City Police Department. Working on all the cases involving the black sheep members of his family, Kent enjoyed several assignments and was particularly fond of both the motorcycle unit he led as well as the time in undercover with his purple Camaro and straggly beard. Carrying on the service tradition, Kent joined the Salt Lake Elks and served as Exalted Ruler at his Lodge. There, and on his CB radio, Kent met some of his life long friends. After retiring from the SLCPD, Kent and Nancy moved down to Scottsdale Arizona where Kent continued some outdoor activities driving jeep tours. Always hoping family would come and visit, the made sure they had a pool and plenty of room!  After his wife passed, Kent joined the Sun City RV club to continue with his outdoor shenanigans with more friends and was always happy to go ATV’in with Joyce. In Sun City, Kent was always proud to take anyone who would visit him to a breakfast at the Elk’s Lodge.  Now that Kent is with his family, he leaves behind the next generation.  His three children (Sherman, Kelly and Laurie) his grand kids and a gaggle of Nieces and Nephews whom he always hoped he had been a good influence and taught them how to get in trouble the proper way. Family and Friends are invited to gather for a viewing at Holbrook Mortuary (3251 So. 2300 E) in Salt Lake City, Utah Friday 6-8 p.m..   Saturday there will be a short viewing from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and then followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m.  Kent will then have a graveside dedication and burial finally rejoining his parents and siblings in the beautiful and this time of year, colorful Midway cemetery.  He will try get up there by about ~1:30 p.m. and he was typically on time!
