Asa Thomas White passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, September 2, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born in Plano, (Rexburg), Idaho on August 29, 1923 to Lee Layman White and Matilda Ann Smith White. He was the oldest of nine children.

Asa served in the U.S. Army as a civil engineer, building bridges throughout Europe during World War II. Upon his return he was called as a missionary for the LDS Church in Johannesburg, South Africa. On March 5, 1953 he married Irene Ivy Howells in the Logan LDS Temple. They were the parents of three children: Joseph, Melissa, and Lehi. For many years Asa farmed in Idaho but later went back to his earlier love of building, constructing many fine buildings in Washington, Idaho, Utah, and California. He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a great scriptorian. Being the owner of thousands of books, a love of reading is a legacy he passed on to his posterity.

Asa is survived by his children Melissa (Leo Kanell), Lehi (Ines), twelve grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene, son Joseph, parents Lee and Matilda, and sisters Doris, Edna, Bonnie and brother Ross.

Services will be Saturday Sept. 10th at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City with the viewing 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., funeral at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial at Bountiful Cemetery. Guestbook to post messages and tributes for the family available at: www.HolbrookMortuary.com
