Carol McKean Livingston

Carol McKean Livingston, a resident of Palo Alto for over 60 years, passed away on April 6, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. 

Carol was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 23, 1932 to Royal and Thelma McKean, the youngest of their five children.   She married Daniel S. Livingston on September 12, 1953 following their graduation from the University of Utah.  While at the U, she began her lifelong commitment to the Chi Omega Sorority, which included her work in leading the re-establishment of the Nu Alpha chapter at Stanford in 1991.  Her collection of over 400 owl pieces – the symbol of Chi Omega -- plus the numerous recognitions she received from the national and local sorority attested to her love and dedication to her sorority sisters.

From her mother, Carol acquired a love of politics, which included her association with the Palo Alto Republican Women’s Club, including serving three terms as its President.  She also devoted many years of voluntary service to the Peninsula Volunteers, the Stanford Mothers Club, the Peninsula Children’s Club, and PTA groups at Loma Vista, Terman and Gunn High Schools.

Carol is survived by her husband, Dan, of Palo Alto, her son, Dan (Betsy) of Newport Beach, her daughter Luann (Shelley) of San Carlos, and her three grandchildren, Danny, Leilani (John), and David (Jaimee).  At her request, services will be private and burial will be in the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  Contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Avenidas Rose Kleiner Center, 270 Escuela Avenue, Mountain View 94040, where she received care for several years.

Carol was greatly loved by her husband, her family and her many friends and she will be deeply missed.

A funeral service will be held Monday, April 16, 2018 at 10:00am at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park chapel, 17111 South Redwood Road, Bluffdale, Utah. Interment will follow in the cemetery at the same location.
