Our beloved mother, Dorothy Stark Weiler, passed away peacefully in her home on June 21, 2016 of causes incident to age. She was born July 3, 1925 in McGill, Nevada to Fred and Mary Jane (Newby) Stark. After graduation from White Pine High in 1943, Dottie went to Los Angeles to work as a ship welder for Western Pipe & Steel Co., like the quintessential WWII icon Rosie the Riveter. From the time Dottie was 6 years old, she wanted to be a nurse. In 1943, she entered Holy Cross Hospital’s Nursing College in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dottie was a member of the U.S. Navy Cadet Nurse Corp and is registered with the National WWII Memorial. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 55 years. She especially loved working as a Labor & Delivery Nurse at Cottonwood Hospital. She married her eternal companion, Grant Warren Weiler, in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 4, 1947. Together they had seven children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she served in many callings during her lifetime. She particularly enjoyed serving in the RS Presidency of the Holladay 27th Ward. Dottie had a great love for sewing, cross-stitch, needlework and handiwork and took a small break from nursing to be the owner of The Magic Needle in Sandy for several years. Teaching her craft and sharing her creations brought her great joy. She contributed thousands of quilts to the Humanitarian Center. She gave even more of her efforts to friends and family. Dottie was a kind and loving person. Her greatest talent was in how she could help people know and feel they were loved. Her friendships spanned generations. Dottie enjoyed reading & crossword puzzles. She had a hidden talent as a poet. Dottie especially loved to swim. She hosted summer pool parties and our family’s “Annual Regatta” which lasted over 15 years. She was a 90 yr old—4’11”—Coca-Cola drinking—Words with Friends playing—fireball of warmth and spunkiness. She relished a good laugh and with self-deprecating humor would induce you to laugh along with her. Dottie delighted in Sunday dinners with her family and was an excellent cook. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed. Dottie is survived by her five children: Dr. Michael Rand, Grant Lynn, Jeff Warren, Suzanne (Doug) Hardy, and Robert Stark Weiler. She leaves four beautiful grandchildren: Alexis Gough (Geoff), Jonathan, Emily, and Hannah Hardy and great-granddaughter Eliza “Ellie” Ann Gough. She was preceded in death by husband Grant, son Jonathan Kent, and daughter Patricia Joyce, and siblings Lola Knighton, Burnell Stark and Jean Theobald. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 1:00 PM in the Holladay 27th Ward Chapel, 5450 S. Holladay Blvd in Salt Lake City. Viewing from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. Interment at Holladay Memorial Cemetery. We would like to thank the sweet staff at Inspiration Hospice and Beehive Senior Care for their tender care of our mother. Mom, thank you for your great example of faith, hope & charity. We love you so much!
