Helen Elaine Weilenmann Bennion, Beloved Wife, Mother of four, Grandmother of seven, Great Grandmother of 21, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ, passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, on May 13, 2016. She was 91 years old.

Born Helen Elaine Weilenmann to Swiss immigrant parents Gustav Arnold Weilenmann and Louise Marie Huber on January 10, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah, she attended South high school, graduating in 1943. She loved drama and theater and performed in plays throughout her school years. She also was active in stage design. After high school, she attended the University of Utah, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama and speech. Following college, she headed for New York, and directed the play “Poppa is all” in New Jersey.

After returning to Salt Lake, she was referred to a dentist for a toothache. The dentist was Dr. Don Weiler Bennion, a rancher’s boy who, after distinguished service as a US Marine in WWII, had taken advantage of a GI Bill opportunity to go to dental school. One thing led to another, and they were married on September 3, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Throughout her life, Elaine was dedicated to serving others. She always volunteered for every service opportunity, and contributed to every family or church activity. She was an exceptional cook and loved trying out new recipes on her family.  She prepared delicious family dinners every Sunday until her stroke at the age of 89. She was completely devoted to her family and to God.

Elaine worked for many years as a substitute teacher, and was widely known as someone who was always cheerful and ready to help whenever and wherever needed.
Mother and Grandma, we love you and miss you, and we know that you have entered into the loving embrace of your Heavenly Father.

Elaine is Survived by children, Marie West (Chris), Paula May, and Heber Bennion (Peri).
She was preceded in death by husband, Don Weiler Bennion; son, Ashley Brook Bennion; great-grandson, Benjamin; sister, Virginia Weilenmann Anderson; and brother, Milton Weilenmann; all of whom she dearly loved.

We would like to thank Sunrise Senior Living for their generous and loving hospitality. They loved Mom and gave her so much special attention! Also thanks to Inspiration Hospice. They were so tender and loving towards mom, and treated her like one of their own.
