Loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend Jay Neil Jackson passed away peacefully November 25, 2015 at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Jay was born September 6, 1924 in Plano, Idaho.  He was the 5th child to George H. and Josephine Hemsley Jackson. He grew up in Salt Lake, but spent much of his childhood in his beloved Idaho.

He graduated from East High School and attended the U of U. Jay served his country during World War II in the United States Navy.  He worked in the Engineering office of a hospital, stationed in New Caledonia. On May 16, 1949, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Faye Crowther. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to their new home in Canyon Rim and raised three children.

Jay was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a steel drafting detailer by trade and owned his own company. From his childhood throughout his life, his passion was model airplanes, which he designed, built, and flew.  He designed many models, several of which are flown by people all over the world.  He was an influence and inspiration to many modelers, young and old. In 2010 he was inducted into National Free Flight Society Hall of Fame.

Preceded in death by his parents, sister Myrtle, brothers Warren, Dale, Richard, and Burtis, and son Jay Leonard. Survived by wife Carolyn, daughter Connie, son Larry (Jeff), daughter-in-law Judy, grandchildren Alisha (Justin), Bryon (Shazell), TJ, Mica, great-grandchildren Olive, Ender and Opal, brother Clinton, sister Geraldine, and sister-in-law Lois.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday December 2, 2015 at the Canyon Rim Ward Chapel, 3000 South Grace Street (3100 East). Friends may visit with the family Tuesday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Wednesday morning from 9:30 am to 10:30 am prior to the service. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Online guestbook to post messages and tributes for the family is available at: www.HolbrookMortuary.com
