John Spencer Clawson, Jr.

John Spencer Clawson Jr., beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, packed his bags one last time and departed on his final adventure.  John will be greatly missed by his extensive family and friends.  He is remembered for his thirst for knowledge, finding the beauty in so many things, his infinite generosity, and his adventurous spirit.

An avid world traveler and explorer, John’s favorite pastime was ‘Scobberlotching’, which he defined as “Setting out expecting to stumble upon enchanting things quite by accident; Going forth with the anticipation of serendipity.”

John saw the art and beauty in everything, whether in stones, or trees, capturing it on film, forming it into jewelry, writing it in verse, or arranging it in a vase.  His zest for life and voracious curiosity was felt by all, and gratefully passed on to generations of family and friends.
 
Graveside services will be held at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, on February 6th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.  A celebration of John’s life will be held afterward in his honor at 4:00 p.m. at the Skaggs Memorial Parlor, 777 S 1300 E. Salt Lake City, UT 84102.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your local arboretum or community garden.

Do not mourn that you have lost him, instead rejoice in having him, and knowing what others have learned from him.  John, aka ‘Dr. Pangloss’, made this the best of all possible worlds.  Now, on to the next one…
