Marilyn Wightman Webb passed away peacefully in her daughter's home on Wednesday, February 15. She lived a full and happy life, enjoying 91 years of relatively good health and a sharp mind. All who spent time with her enjoyed her loving nature and good humor and always came away uplifted.

Marilyn was born in Salt Lake City to Demar and Thelma Wightman.  She spent much of her younger life in Provo, Utah.  In 1945, she married Charlie Hawke and had three children:  Vicki, Steven and Randy.  After moving back to Salt Lake, she spent many years as the private secretary to the Treasurer of Mountain Fuel.  In 1961, she married Wilbur Webb (who had a son, Richard) in the Salt Lake Temple.  Her “yours, mine and ours” family was complete with the births of Michael and David.

Professionally, mom spent numerous years working in the LDS church education system at the high school and college levels. She was loved by the students and instructors with whom she worked.  Mom had a deep love for music throughout her life.  In her younger years, mom was a talented dancer.  She also had a beautiful singing voice which we enjoyed hearing as we sat with her in church and other places.

Mom’s family was her most important priority.  She was fiercely loyal and supportive of all of her children.  In addition, she enjoyed 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and 10 Great Great grandchildren.  All love her and know they are loved by her.

Mom’s other major priority was her faith and she lived her life accordingly.  She was active in the LDS church serving in many leadership positions in various organizations.  In 1986 she and Wilbur served a mission in New Zealand which she dearly loved.  After dad’s passing, mom served a mission in Philadelphia, and soon thereafter another mission at age 75 in Manchester, England.  After her mission, she enjoyed several years giving tours at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.  She didn’t simply speak of service, she lived it by her example and many lives were touched by her unique spirit.

Mom was best known for her contagious smile and delightful demeanor which will be remembered by all who knew her.  Though she lived with a great deal of pain in her later years, she never complained.  Any who visited with her were always greeted by that smile and genuine love.  She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter Vicki Grob (Dennis), and sons Steven Hawke, Richard Webb (Chris), Randy Hawke (Peggy), Michael Webb (Angela) and David Webb (Melodie).  She was preceded in death by her brother Bobby Wightman, her sister Judy Johnson, her husband, Wilbur and her granddaughter Lauren Webb.

Special thanks from our family to her daughter Vicki (and Dennis) who tirelessly cared for her in her later years. Thanks also to the loving service provided by the Hospice team that cared for mom in the last several weeks.  Their dignified service was greatly appreciated.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 21 at the LDS chapel located at 2702 East Evergreen Avenue (3435 South) at 11:00 AM.   A viewing will be held at the same location on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and prior to the funeral on Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:30 AM.   Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn.
