Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Marvin William “Bill” Orr, passed away at home on December 25, 2016. Born June 11, 1930 in Hilliards, Pennsylvania to Marvin W. and Erma McKissick Orr. Married Elaine Crawford on March 19, 1955, sealed in the Salt Lake Temple January 31, 1961.
Bill decided on Christmas morning, life was getting too tough. He is now free of pain and has begun the next part of his journey
He Choose the U of U to start his education after finishing 4 years in the Air Force. He had close friends from Salt Lake City helping him decide on the U. It was during this time he met his wife Elaine and decided it was time to settle down. It worked well, as they were married 61 years.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was very active in the Scouting Program and received the Silver Beaver award. As a teen in Pennsylvania he earned his own Eagle Scout Award. He also enjoyed coaching youth in baseball.
Bill was very active in Community Affairs. He worked tirelessly setting up “Neighbor Watch” in his neighborhood. Worked supporting the “Unified Police Department for 22 years on the Citizen Advisory Board.” He set up a working Advisory Board at the new East Millcreek Senior Center.
Bill left a loving family, Wife Elaine, Children Lisa Schauerhamer (Craig), Steven, Michael (Heidi), Matthew (Jeri), 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is very lucky to also have a very supportive extended family that has always been there.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday December 31, 2016 at the East Millcreek First Ward, 2702 East Evergreen Ave (3435 South). Friends may visit with the family on Friday evening December 30, 2016 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30am to 10:30am prior to the services.
