Nephi Raymond "Ray" Newbold fought a valiant fight against Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Cancer since 1999 leaving this world on May 1, 2016. Ray was born September 15, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Alonzo and Gertrude Newbold. Ray was the fourth child of six and the last surviving member of his immediate family. Ray married Ramona Robinson on August 15, 1958 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the proud parents of 5 children; 1 son and 4 daughters.

Ray grew up in the Avenues and in North Salt Lake during the Depression and World War II.  He graduated from Davis High School and served in the Korean War as an Army Ranger. He was proud to be an American and loved this country.  After two years in the military he served a mission in the England London British Mission in 1955 and a Stake Mission for three years. Ray was a faithful member and had a very strong testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.   He had many callings in the Grandview II Ward as a ward clerk and in the bishopric. He was also in the High Priest Group Presidency three different times and worked in the Young Men's Organization and in the Boy Scouts of America influencing numerous young men throughout the years. Ray's last mission was with his sweetheart Ramona by his side on an Inner City Service Mission with the Refugees from Burma in the South Salt Lake Columbus Branch.

Ray always worked hard to support his family.  He worked for many years at the Life Saver Candy Company. He was also the proud owner of the Newbold Bookworm, where he distributed children's books for ten years.  In 1999 he began his own business designing convenience stores and selling refrigeration equipment. Ray was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in his yard to create beautiful landscapes. He loved his wife, family and grandchildren and enjoyed being with them, often traveling to different places with them.

Ray is survived  by his wife Ramona; son Kerry (Robyn) Newbold, Layton, Utah; daughters  Holly (Dan) Broadhead, Riverton, Utah,  Robin (Paul) Asmar, Murray,  Utah,  Heather (Todd) Ryan, Temecula, California and Angie (Bret) Cummings, Herriman, Utah:  seventeen grandchildren and one great grandson. He is proceeded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Newbold.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11:00 am, at the Grandview 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, 2930 South 2000 East, Salt Lake City, Utah.  Friends and family can visit Thursday evening from 6-8pm at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Friday morning from 9:30-10:30am prior to the service.  Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South.

The family would like to thank the Utah Cancer Specialists and especially Dr. Gregory Litton for the many years of care they provide for our Dad. In lieu of flowers you may donate to the cancer research of your choice or to the LDS Church Missionary Fund.
