Richard "Chuck" Dale Bergstom, Sr.

(Dick) Richard “Chuck” Dale Bergstrom, (87) passed away on December 29, 2016, peacefully with loving family by his side.

“Chuck” to family and friends and “Dick” to co-workers and friends was born December 21, 1929 in Magna, Utah to Esther Charlotte Bergstrom.  He grew up between Magna and Lapoint, Utah, raised by family members. His mother passed away when he was a young child of 7 years old. Later, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he learned his trade of baking and gained many great stories from waters and ports around the world.

As a baker, Dick worked for many great bakeries and grocery stores in Southern California, Salt Lake City and Park City. He had many loyal customers who followed him from bakery to bakery throughout his career. Once you have tasted his breads and pastries, nothing else would do. 

Richard married Rita Mora in 1954. Rita is the one who gave him the nickname “Chuck” because she said there were too many Dick’s in the family. Together they raised four wonderful children between Utah and California.

Chuck is survived by son David Scott (Lee), daughters Annette Bergstrom (Carol Ann), and Natalie Bennett (Steve), as well as six grandchildren, Anna-Britt Bergstrom, David Bergstrom, Jeremiah Bennett (Vicki), Josh Bennett, Jamie Hall (Brian), and Crystal Borders-Bergstrom and five great-grandchildren, Owen, Alexa, Brynn, Afton and Xander.

Preceded in death by his mother Esther, half sister Marion Coleman, wife Rita, and son Rich.

A very special appreciations to all the staff at Saint Mark’s Hospital and Community Nursing Services Hospice Care. Their care for both Richard and his family could not have been any kinder or better.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Richard “Chuck” Bergstrom will be held on Tuesday, January 10th at 11:00 am at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East in Salt Lake City where friends may visit Tuesday morning from 10:00 - 11:00 am prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, please tell the ones close to you that you love them and to make a donation to a charity of your choice.  Guestbook to post messages and tributes for the family is available at: www.HolbrookMortuary.com
