Richard “Dick” Carnahan Hunter passed away peacefully August 14, 2016 due to natural causes, surrounded by his loving family.

Dad was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 29, 1932 to Joseph MacDuff and Laura Carnahan Hunter.  He graduated from East High School where he participated in the debate team and drama club.  He then attended the University of Utah for 2 years before enlisting and serving in the United States Air Force.  During the Korean War he served in the 4th Tow Target Squadron at George Air Force Base in Victorville, Ca.

Dad married the dream girl of his life, Shirley Maxine Tidwell in the Salt Lake Temple on February 6, 1952.  They built a life together centered around family and friends for the next 64 years.

Dad was an interior designer by trade and worked for Dinwoody’s Furniture and Hunter’s Interior Design Center.  He was revered as an expert designer by many, including commercial banks in Elko, Nevada, as their “go to man” on all updates in interior design. Many families in the Intermountain States used him for their personal home decor and stayed loyal to him for many years.

Dad had a special love for God and serving his fellow man.  He volunteered as a counselor for a much needed support group for multiple sclerosis patients and created another 13 groups throughout the state of Utah while serving on the board of the Utah MS Society. He spent many hours there each week for 35 years and eventually was presented with the “Utah Governors Award” for his many years of community service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joseph Hunter and sister Gloria McKee and by his sweet grandson Joseph Bradley Hunter, son of Calvin Hunter and former wife Sabrina Hunter.

Survived by his wife Maxine Hunter, 4 children, Scott (Shelley) Hunter, Kristine (Paul) Philips, Russell (Barbara) Hunter, Calvin (Jamie) Hunter, 24 Grandchildren and 31 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Olympus 4th Ward, 3104 East Nila Way. Friends and family may visit on Friday evening, August 19, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and also at the church on Saturday morning from 11:30am to 12:30pm prior to services.  Interment:  Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
