Millcreek, UT– Riley Leon Newton, age 92, passed away at home, February 7, 2018. He was born June 11, 1925 in Monroe, Utah. He was the youngest son of Edgar Leon Newton and Nora Jensen Newton.
He married Lois Ivie in Yuma, Arizona during World War II. Bravely served our country in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was able to go on the Honor Flight for Veterans to Washington D.C.
He taught school in Wayne County, and various schools in Granite District. He retired as principal from West Lake Jr. High in 1986.
Loved sports, fishing, and hunting. He stayed active in all of these most of his life. He was bowling in a league up until last spring. He enjoyed his family and spending time with all of them.
He was a member of the LDS church. Marriage to Lois was later solemnized in the Manti temple. They were married for 70 years until her death in 2012.
Riley is survived by his five children: Steve (Julie) Newton, Anne (Garth) Barlow, Carol (Alan) Pero, Lori (Paul) Callaway and Mark (Kim) Newton; 19 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren, Phyllis Sorenson, a sister, and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the original Highland View Ward building located at 2980 South 2790 East, Salt Lake City. Friends may call at a viewing held Friday, Feb. 16th at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and at the church Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services.
