Robert Crofts Obituary

Robert Dawson Crofts died March 10, 2018 of natural causes after a great life at age 84. Bob was born May 7, 1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John William and Arva Smith Crofts. He grew up as a “child of the depression” with brothers Jack and Gord.  He learned how to work hard and save in order to get ahead. He attended East High School, the University of Utah and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Bob was an excellent golfer and started caddying at a young age and worked his way up to be the assistant pro at Forest Dale.  He played #1 for the U Golf Team and held the 9 and 18 hole course records at the old Forest Dale golf course.

Bob served in the United States Navy for 10 years. Two of those years were spent as an officer on a Navy Destroyer.  After his two years of active duty, he returned to work fulltime at the Forest Dale golf course and graduated from the University of Utah Law School. Bob worked at the Salt Lake County Attorney’s Office, in private practice, and later worked for Mountain Fuel/Questar for 26 years in their legal department until he retired in 1998.

Bob met his wife Jan at the U and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 8, 1960. They were “linked at the hip” for nearly 58 years.  They have 4 children Bob, Rick, Ken, and Liz. Bob always put family first and supported his kids and grandkids in all of their activities. He made sure to take advantage of opportunities to teach correct principles to his family. We have great memories of family vacations in the truck & camper, to St. George and to the beach.  Bob & Jan enjoyed golfing together, traveling, going to Utah Jazz games, and going to their home in St. George.

Bob served diligently in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a testimony of the gospel. He served in 2 bishoprics, on the high council, and as an Elder’s Quorum President but his favorite calling was as a teacher.  Bob & Jan served as missionaries in the Salt Lake Temple Square Mission and in the Salt Lake Inner City Mission.

Bob is survived by his wife Jan, brother Gordon Crofts, and his children Bob (Karen) Crofts, Rick (Alicia) Crofts, Ken (Melissa) Crofts, and Liz (Trent) Michie. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Amy (Craig) Skousen, Kristy (Connor) Kendrick, Katherine (Xavier) Kingston, Seth Crofts, Bobby Crofts, Heather Crofts, Regan Crofts, Gabrielle Michie, Ansley Crofts, Thomas Michie, Riley Crofts and Adam Crofts. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jack.
