Sybil Jensen Westlund
March 4, 1922 ~ August 27, 2015 (age 93) 93 Years OldOur beloved family matriarch returned to her heavenly home and was reunited with her sweetheart on Thursday, August 27th, 2015.
Sybil Jensen Westlund was born to Brigham Richard and Sarah Eliza Williams Jensen on March 4, 1922 in Centerfield, Utah. She had some serious health issues as a baby, but battled through those to become a strong, spunky, amazing woman.
Sybil graduated from Gunnison High School and caught the attention of a quiet boy from the same town, Clay David Westlund. They were married on November 12, 1947 in the Manti, Utah LDS temple. They were blessed with three sons.
Family and faith were the foundation of Sybil’s life. She devoted much of her time to serving in various church callings. She and Clay served three missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including one to Hong Kong.
Grandma never took anything for granted. She saved and recycled, was generous with her time and talents, and worried about and prayed for her family constantly. She was a talented gardener, quilter and baker. She knew each of our favorite desserts and made sure her pantry and freezer were stocked with them. She never allowed anyone to go hungry in her presence. We will miss camping with her, playing SkipBo with her, and seeing the light in her eyes as she intently listened to our stories, but we know she will continue to lovingly watch over us.
She is survived by her sons: Kirk (Helen), Stephen (Vicky), daughter-in-law Susan, Connie Anichini who the Weldon family shared with us, brother Philip, 9 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, plus a large extended family and many dear friends. Sybil was preceded in death by her eternal companion Clay, her son Ronald, great-grandson Eli, her parents, and siblings: Gwen, Phyllis, Warren and Orson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at 11:00 am at the Canyon Rim 2nd Ward, 3000 S. Grace St. (3100 E), Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to the service. Interment at Gunnison City Cemetery.
