At almost 100 years old, Vernon Jones passed away peacefully while relaxing after dinner in his big easy chair just eleven days before his birthday. Everyone, especially Vernon, was looking forward to this big milestone.

Vernon was born in Ogden, Utah to Irving W. and Emma Anderson Jones.  He earned his associate degree from Weber College and attended Utah State University. Interestingly, he was one of the first ones to be drafted in Utah into the Army in January of 1941, serving five years in the military during World War II. It was requested that he become an officer, so he became a “90 Day Wonder”. He was proud of his service in the U.S. and also in France and Germany.

He married his sweetheart, H. Edna Hubbard on June 1, 1943 in Ogden, Utah.  Their marriage was later solemnized in 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple. In 1951 they moved from Ogden and settled in Salt Lake City where they raised their 4 children. Vernon and Edna were married almost 67 years. Vernon loved to follow college football, politics, the financial markets and current events. He was a lifelong learner and an avid reader of newspapers and business magazines. He was a champion for the underdog and had a tender heart for the disadvantaged. He had an amazing amount of grit and determination.  He was in sales for more than twenty years. When he retired from sales, he found a talent and love for investing which he did actively and successfully until recently. He greatly appreciated family and friends who spent time visiting with him these last few years, brightening his days. He was a great story teller with a good memory and often told interesting stories of his life. He was very grateful for and proud of his children.

He is survived by his brother, Gordon; sons, Brent and Carl; daughters, Beverly Francom (Myron) and Eileen (Steve Wottlin); 11 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and 3 siblings.

“And, Dad, we'll have your party yet! We love and miss you!”   Family and friends are invited to celebrate his 100th birthday and his life Saturday, March 25, 2017. Funeral services will be held that day at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City at 11:00 am.  Friends and family may call 9:30 - 10:30 am prior to the funeral. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Guestbook to post messages and tributes for the family is available at: www.HolbrookMortuary.com
