Zina Jean BATEMAN, passed away April 9, 2017. Jean was born June 29, 1937 to John Isaac and Lillian Eva Mac Donald EVANS in American Fork, Utah, third of seven children. She graduated from American Fork High in 1955 and attended Utah State University two and one half years with a scholarship as a Home Economics Major. Her Summers were spent working for Civil Service in Washington, D.C. She returned to D.C. after the Fall Quarter of 1957and five months later became engaged to Walter Campbell BATEMAN.
Afterwards, in 1958 she worked as a Secretary in Atlanta, GA. for the Air Force Office of Special Investigation with Top Secret and Eyes Only Clearances. In 1959 Jean married her Sweetheart in the Salt Lake Temple, and worked again in D.C. with OSI. They moved to Athens, GA. in 1963 where she worked with Soil Conservation Service and her secretarial skills earned her a PHT (Putting Hubby Through).
When Walt graduated from the University Of GA. in 1968, Jeans health prevented her from working any longer, she was retired from Civil Service, and the Family moved to Utah.
Even though her health continued to decline throughout her life, she will be remembered for her selfless devotion and example to her family, and friends. Jean did the little things that influenced the lives of many. She loved to fish, sew, did handiwork prolifically showing her creativity, to cook, plan picnics, and family birthday dinner parties. A deep and abiding testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ was always a vibrant part of her life. She served as a teacher and a leader in MIA, Primary, Sunday School, and Relief Society. However, her greatest love and concern was always for her family and friends.
Jean is survived by her husband, Walt; children, Eva Ruth (Nathan) JOHNSEN, Walter Evan (Alison) BATEMAN; brothers, John (Maurine) EVANS, Richard (Rowena) EVANS, Norman (Linda) EVANS, and Nephi (Laura) EVANS; sister-in-law, Barbara (Robert)EVANS; eight grandchildren, four grandsons-in-law, one great-grand child, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Robert EVANS; sister and brother-in-law, Naomi (Del) DIAMOND; and sister-in-law, Kaye (Norman) EVANS.
