Karan Liddell Obituary

Karan Ardel Ririe Liddell was born on June 25, 1936 in Ogden, Utah to Floyd and Berenice Ririe. She died on March 7, 2024 at the age of 87 (or 34, or 29, or 21, or 18 depending on when you asked her).

She married Arlyn Gail Liddell on February 25, 1955. They had eight children, whom Karan cared for most of her life.

She was a life-long student and reader. If she had wanted to take the tests, she would have graduated from the Institute of Religion at the University of Utah. She quilted furiously most of her life (there were often quilting frames up in the basement). When she had five boys, she canned fruit to keep them fed. She spent many hours following the tennis stars through all of the Grand Slam Tournaments. She showed her dedication to the LDS Church through her service as: Relief Society President, Visiting Teaching Coordinator, Cub Scouts, Primary Presidencies, Young Women’s presidencies, and as the president of YWMIA for the Southern States Mission. She taught Early Morning Seminary in Alabama and Illinois. She answered phones in Kiev, Ukraine to help out the service center even though she could speak neither Ukrainian nor Russian. She loved planting flowers in the yard; every year she took some grandchildren to pick bulbs because they mostly died which is why they had to do it every year. For the last few years, Karan watched NCIS, the original, religiously and could tell you about the character’s backstories and what would happen next. She would do her word search puzzles, cheating only when she needed.

Karan is survived by her husband, Arlyn; her children: Glenn Liddell, James and Kelly Liddell, Robert Liddell, David Liddell, Scott Liddell, Terra Davis, Melodee and Theo Cloud, and Elise and Joe Cook. Her grandchildren include: Sean, Daniel, Kesha, Jennifer, Jessica, Karson, Jaden, Annie, Carlyn, Samuel, Nathan, Eli, Samantha, Elizabeth Karan, Nicholas, and Oliver with 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, her brother, Kenneth Ririe, her sister, Janice Kunz, and her daughter-in-law, Sue Liddell.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 11, at Valley View Ward Chapel at 3820 S 2000 E in Millcreek at 12:00 pm with a public viewing at 10:00 – 11:30 am.
