Billie Maxfield Obituary

Billie Betty Anderson Maxfield, age 95, loving mother, adored wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother; passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of April 29th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Mom was born January 30, 1928, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gale William and Betty Frances Burt Anderson. She grew up in Salt Lake City and attended Wasatch Elementary School, Bryant Jr. High, graduated from East High School in 1945 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Utah in 1949.

In 1938 when our grandmother re-married and she and her new husband, Donald Clark Brooks, were stationed in the San Francisco Bay area with his World War II Navy assignment, Mom remained in Salt Lake where she stayed with her loving grandparents Carl Colvin and Francis Burt.

Mom met the love of her life, Ronald Grant Maxfield, in her chemistry class at East High School. It was after graduation that they went on their first date to listen to records and the rest was history! They were married May 15, 1948, in Malad, Idaho and remained partners and sweethearts - where Dad continued to sing to her - until his death in June 2019.

They made their home in Salt Lake after they were married and started our family with their first son, Ronald Scott the following year in October.  Shortly thereafter they were blessed with their first daughter, Wendie. With our dad’s work at W. H. Bintz Company, they moved to Boise Idaho in June 1952.  They created many cherished memories and forged lasting, lifetime friendships during their 10 years in Boise.  It was also during this time that they were blessed with two more daughters, Bonnie Deanne, and Cheryl Lynn. In November of 1961, Dad’s career success brought us back to Salt Lake City where our family became complete with the surprise addition of twin boys - Robert Alan, and Randall Jon.

Mom was a devout member of the Episcopal Church and served as the All Saints Alter Guild Director for

3+ years while participating in the guild for over three decades.

Mom embraced her family, was kind and adventurous, optimistic, generous, engaging, virtuous, elegant and had many interests and friends. She was an accomplished snow skier; she taught our dad and all of us kids how to ski. She also loved golf, travel, water skiing, the outdoors, gardening, bridge, was a legendary cook and a voracious reader. Her participation in community organizations included The Ballet Guild – Treasurer, The Assistants League – Treasurer, Salt Lake Tuesday Club - member, and the P.E.O. Sister’s - member.

She was preceded in death by our dad, Ronald. Survived by her children R. Scott (Gena); Wendie (Robb) Roberts; Deanne (Jeffrey Kaufman) Maxfield; Cheryl Maxfield; Robert A. (Kristine); Randall J. (Selena); 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. We will miss your goodness and generosity Mom!

A celebration of life will be held in her honor sometime this Fall.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family are asked to make a donation to the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.)
