Ronald Powell Obituary

Ronald Alva Powell passed away May 10th, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. Born December 26th, 1933 to Zelda Larsen Powell and Ralph C. Powell in Holladay, Utah. Ron grew up in Holladay. Throughout his childhood he had a love for hunting and fishing; all the while exploring the mountains near Salt Lake City. Ron would also meet the love his life, Afton Brown, here as well. Ron and Afton were married June 7th, 1952 and had four beautiful daughters.

Ron worked hard at his job as a heavy machine operator to provide for his family and turned it into a hobby collecting models of every machine he operated. Ron always made sure he had time to take the family on adventures. He loved fishing and camping with everyone in the family. He also had a passion for golf. Him and Afton golfed every course they could get a tee time. Ron not only loved bowling, but took it upon himself to teach all of his children and grandchildren how to bowl. All of the grandkids now have dents in their noses from bringing their hand to their nose after releasing the bowling ball.

In their free time Ron and Afton loved taking trains all over the country. Their many rides led them to see all sorts of the wonders America had to offer. Ron was always a fun-loving person and a joy to everyone he met. He loved telling stories, loved his animals, and always made sure everyone felt welcomed in his life. Lastly, he made sure everyone knew how much he loved his family.

Ron is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Afton; his sister, Nancy; his four daughters, Roni Kae (Bill), Shellie (Bill), Sharon (John), and Robyn (Mike); 6 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Zelda; his siblings Leo, Dale, Wally, and Verla; and his grandson Travis.

There will be a viewing on Friday, May 14th from 10 to 11:30 AM at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 E.  Graveside service to follow at Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 South Memory Lane.

He loved everyone in his family, and we will miss his wholesome smile, and joyful laugh. What a guy.

“What a guy”, He used to say that about special people in his life.
