Vera Feight Obituary

Our beloved Vera (Conci) Feight, 95, died on September 19, 2022, at home in Salt Lake City with her daughter Clea by her side.

She was born Vera Deane Wilson on October 3, 1926, to E. Vance and Jane McBride Wilson in Fillmore, Utah.  A star student, Vera graduated cum laude from Pomona College in Claremont, California. While in college, she was wooed by Cleon B. (Jack) Feight, a Royal Canadian Air Force veteran of World War II, and they were married on July 29, 1950, at her family’s home in Fillmore. They were loving companions who supported each other’s individual interests, worked alongside one another in the house and yard, and kept the flame alive until the end. Jack and Vera created and maintained a beautiful landscape around their home, playing off each other’s’ strengths. She indulged Jack’s love of golf while he gave his blessing for her to travel extensively throughout the United States and world with friends and family members.

Jack and Vera were blessed with two daughters, Lisa born in 1957 and Clea in 1959. Their big home on the corner of Siggard and Forest Hills drives in Millcreek was the center of life not only for their immediate family, but an extended family of cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends for more than five decades. When Vera became a grandmother, “Goggie” made a point of entertaining each of her grandchildren with special meals and activities they would enjoy together. Her great-granddaughter Juniper’s arrival in May of 2020 sparked a light in her eyes that had been gone for many years.

Vera began her career as a caseworker for the Salt Lake County Welfare Department. She later returned to school and obtained a teaching certificate in special education.  She possessed an admirable work ethic, just like her mother, which was also displayed in her many unpaid labors of love. Family and friends always took precedence and allowed her to showcase her very best qualities. The many hats she wore included gracious hostess, chauffer, babysitter, gardener, maid, chef, tutor, typist, and seamstress. She was the definition of the word “considerate” and she invariably went above and beyond to support those she loved.

She instilled in her children and grandchildren her love of music and the arts. A peacekeeper by nature, she showed an open-mindedness and acceptance of others that was ahead of her time. A self-described worrywart, she channeled that nervous energy into knitting many beautiful baby blankets and about ten thousand colorful dishcloths which she distributed to friends and family members. However, she was never more at peace than while walking the beach and for many years she relished annual trips to Coronado, California. She identified as “spiritual, not religious” and spent nearly three decades practicing Kundalini yoga. She continued to have an active mind into her eighties and was an avid reader. She maintained a healthy lifestyle for most of her life with daily walks around the neighborhood. Support from her daughter and granddaughter allowed her to remain independent throughout her life.

Vera is survived by her loyal daughter Clea; devoted granddaughter Lexie Siena (Felix), much-loved grandsons Jack Levitt, Zachary Ickes and William Ickes; great- granddaughter Juniper Siena who filled her with joy; helpful nephews and nieces Vance Wilson (Phil), Catherine Pauley, Margaret Wilson (Pam) and Robert Wilson (Elizabeth); and her caring son-in-law Olin Levitt (Sarah). She was preceded in death by her daughter Lisa Levitt whom she mourned deeply for the remainder of her life, son-in-law Bruce Ickes, husband, brothers William Wilson and Samuel Wilson, and parents.

Per her request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please direct contributions to Clea Feight toward a memorial in her honor at Red Butte Garden, where she enjoyed visiting benches commemorating the lives of her brother, husband and daughter. In the event that the family is unable to acquire a memorial at Red Butte, the contributions will be donated to a mental health charity.

“May the long time sun shine upon you, all love surround you, and the pure light within you guide your way on.” - Old Celtic Blessing and Yoga Mantra
