Alice Nelson Edison

Our loving mom, wife, sister, grandma and GG, Alice Nelson Edison, passed away peacefully at home January 16, 2018. She was born in Tooele, Utah, July 11, 1928, the youngest of five girls born to Stella and Daniel Nelson. Just before she graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Education, she met Hal Edison, beginning a love story that will never end.

Being a homemaker was one of mom’s favorite callings and she did that to perfection. She found great satisfaction in keeping her house both beautifully decorated and meticulously clean. She was a talented seamstress and sewed all her children’s clothes, costumes and doll’s clothes. She also loved to knit. For years she canned peaches, raspberries, beets, chili sauce and piccalilli. Working in her flower garden was her real joy, especially caring for her roses.

Words can’t describe the impact she has had on the lives of those she has touched. Mom not only molded the lives of her daughters but for 21 years she taught Kindergarten, First Grade and Second Grade providing thousands of children a safe, loving and welcoming introduction to public life and learning. For years she received letters of thanks from them.

Mom especially loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids and her weekly Sunday dinners with them are legendary. As the family grew, the size of the table, and the love they shared, also grew. They continue to enjoy her scrumptious roast beef knowing that this tradition keeps them together.

Mom and Dad loved to travel. On annual family vacations they explored the West and in later years they traveled to other parts of the country and foreign lands. They shared many of their adventures with mom’s sisters and their husbands.

Alice was a faithful daughter of God. She had many callings in the LDS Church and her most cherished moments were working for six years in the Salt Lake City Temple where she was able to serve with her eternal companion. Mom and Dad were inseparable. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on Christmas Day.

Mom devoted her life to her family, teaching, working hard and having fun. She lived her life with grace and determination and her unwavering faith and devotion to God held her together through her physical trials.

She is survived by her sweetheart Louis Hal Edison and two children whom she deeply loved: Carol Anne Edison and Margaret Edison Greenberg (Jim); two grandchildren: Jamie Munoz (William) and Kristen Kane (Dave); and five great grand-children: Kate and Oliver Munoz and Hilary, Eden and Keira Kane.

Preceded in death by her parents, sisters and their husbands: Shirley Palmer (Rex), Lucille Lohnes (Roger), Vivian Follett (Don), Earlene Bowers (Bob). 

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 22, 2018 at Noon at the Rosecrest 2nd Ward, 3101 South 2300 East. Friends and family are invited to visit Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00pm at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Monday morning from 10:30-11:30am prior to the service. We wish to thank mom’s neighborhood friends for their support and especially her friend Jo Ann Jensen who has provided so much love for all of us. We also wish to thank Dr. Margaret Lunt, the sweet caregivers at Life Care Center and the inspired hospice workers with Solstice.
