Pleased to know he had a good long life and was able to move to where he wanted.
We worked on church events in the 60's when I was a kid and later hired me at KUHF. HE was a good guy. Do wish I had tried to find him years ago. He will be missed.

To Arvil’s Wonderful family—I first met Arvil and Neldon at Legacy Retirement residence where my mother was living. Another connection was through Lyman and Madeline Lewis who I knew through attending church in Shreveport, Louisiana. Arvil was so nice and friendly, and I enjoyed talking to him at Legacy frequently. He would eat some of his meals sharing a table with my mother, also.
I was so sorry to hear that Arvil assed away. I talked with him a few weeks ago and he told me about his hip problems. Even though he was in pain, he always had a smile on his face. I know that he will be missed terribly by family and friends. I pray that all of you will be blessed with peace comfort. It is wonderful that he has now been reunited with his wife and loved ones who have passed on. I will always remember Arvil, Neldon, and Lyman with fondness and look forward to seeing them someday in the future. They are choice men who brought happiness to many people during their lives of service on this earth.

Mr. C was my most memorable college prof. He truly cared for his students, and was indeed a godly man. He certainly cast a lasting influence on my life As one of my earliest communications professors and mentors at U of H, he set the foundation for my career in broadcasting and audio production. It was Mr. C who helped me locate an available broadcast console and Ampex Tape Recorder that formed the basis of my first production studio. That studio got my son Ben interested in audio, and now he's the producer / engineer for NBA visiting radio broadcast in San Antonio. Ben is also the teacher / sponsor of the Boerne Cibolo Creek Elementary School in house TV Station, where two of his children...my grandchildren...have been part of the on-air production crew. All thanks to you Mr. C! My wife Molly who spent a lot or time at KUHF with me, also knew Mr. C.
She and I had the wonderful pleasure of visiting with Mr. Cochran this summer at his home at the senior center in Utah. He was as gracious and engaging as ever. I know there are many of his students with similar stories. Mr. Cochran is proof that one person can have a profound influence, and make this world a better place for us all.. Thanks Mr. C, and Peace to your loving family.

Arvil Cochran had a gift for warmth, caring, teaching, mentoring and guiding his students -- and I suspect others. He is one of the most memorable instructors in my learning career. No everyone can gently nudge students in the right direction, but he certainly did. His kind and generous spirit was extraordinary. Though he has left us, his legacy will continue in the minds, hearts and talents of those who were privileged to learn from him.

You go through life with the blessing of others who help you early on. Arvil Cochran has been one such person who has shared his guidance and friendship with me, going back to 1972. He was the faculty advisor at the University of Houston radio station, KUHF. He taught radio production. He helped students to get on the air., including me. He let you live your passion. Mr. C, as I came to call him, was a gentle person and a gentleman. Mr. Cochran loved sports.. Once, he and I were in his car, driving to broadcast a junior college basketball game in Shriner, Texas. On the way, he broke out the peanut butter and saltine crackers, which we snacked on for a while. Mr. C has been a devout Mormon, and he told me that he had helped MAKE that peanut butter at a facility in Galveston. It was very good peanut butter, sealed in a metal can. Recently, I reminded Mr. C of that, and we made a trade: I sent him some home-made peanut butter sandwich cookies and he sent me another can of that peanut butter. I will open it in his honor. I have had the good fortune to work in radio at the network level for 36 years---many of them at ABC News, and for the past 17 years, at CBS News. I’ve kept in touch with Mr. Cochran throughout that time, writing and chatting on the phone. We have had so many good conversations, about broadcasting and life, about family and about our good fortune. His kindness and good sense, his stories and his humor have enriched my life.

Every one should have a person in their life like Mr. C.

Godspeed, My Friend……....Love, Dave Barrett, CBS News
