Claudia Ann Stout Tanner

Our beautiful mother, grandmother, wife, sister & friend, Claudia Ann passed away on December 4, 2019 after a 9-year battle with cancer.

She was born to her parents Joyce LaRue Stout and Alma Ray Stout during her favorite time of the year, on June 8, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She had 5 siblings: Steven Stout (brother), Vickie Stout (sister), Larry Stout (brother), Val Stout (brother) & Brian Stout (brother).

She graduated from Kearns High school in 1969 and had many dear friends from her school days including Sandy Hopkins, Carol Baum & Lois Burgess. She later went on to marry Dale James Tanner on October 26, 1973; with their marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple.

She and Dale had 5 children together, and she was a wonderful mother to them. Her children and their spouses are Alden & Michelle Tanner, Amelia Tanner, Rebecca & Curtis Bennett, Steven Tanner, and Jennifer & Jason Roberts.

Claudia was also a very proud grandmother. Her children gave her 10 grandchildren: Sterling, Rachel & Devin, Adam, Seth, Bryce, Taylor, Bretton, Drake, and Sophia. She was also honored to be a great-grandmother to 3 great-grandchildren: Boston, Charlotte & Prescott.

Claudia also had many cousins, nieces and nephews she loved dearly.

Claudia was very talented and excelled at whatever she put her mind to. She had many church callings throughout her life that she gave great attention and care to. She made many friends in her ward and neighborhood and got to visit with many of them in the last few weeks of her life; she was very glad for the opportunity to see them. In her later years, she worked at Wal-Mart and made many friends there as well and had many fond memories of the people she befriended there.

Claudia is preceded in death by her brother Steven Stout, father Alma Stout, mother Joyce Grey, & aunts Laverna, Shirley, and Pat.

“Clot-ia” wanted the staff and treatment team at Huntsman Cancer Institute to know how much their special care and attention meant to her. You gave her more time than she expected with her family and you all felt like friends to her. Her family is beyond grateful for what you have done for her over the last 9 years.

The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the Mayo Clinic of Arizona and Inspiration Hospice for the care they provided to Claudia as well. 

The Leukemia & Lymphoma society was a huge help to Claudia’s battle with Multiple Myeloma. It is the family’s wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to this fund. Friends and family may come visit at the viewing at the Salt Lake Hunter Copperhill Stake Center at 6710 W 4145 S, West Valley City, Utah on Monday, December 9, 2019  at 6-8 pm. For the viewing, please wear tie-dye or colorful attire (or come as you are) to help celebrate the memory of Claudia’s love for color.

Funeral Services will be held at the Salt Lake Hunter Copperhill Stake Center at 6710 W 4145 S, West Valley City, Utah on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 11 am, with a viewing 9:30-10:30 am prior to the service. Please dress warmly, as it was Claudia’s wish for people in attendance to not be cold. Graveside services will immediately follow at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park on 17111 S 1700 W, Bluffdale, UT 84065.
