What to Expect
Glen Albert Sandberg, age 87, passed away peacefully in his home Friday, July 12, 2019.
He was born March 12, 1932 to George Albert Sandberg and Alberta Weethee.
Glen is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Beverly Ganser, and daughters, Terrie Bishop (Chris) and Marty Ann Sandberg (Debbie). He has 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way. Also survived by his best pal, his brother, Dick Sandberg (Lois) and sister, Merrily Thorne (Pat), and many nieces and nephews. Family was Dad’s greatest joy. He spoiled and teased, taught and shared, listened and advised. His grandkids felt that Grandpa was the kind of mentor even Superman could admire.
Dad spent his life in the culinary industry, as an executive chef, working at the Hotel Utah, Provo Elks Lodge, and Utah State Prison, among other places. He served in the US Navy and had many wonderful memories of his time there. He reluctantly retired and became a masterful self-taught woodworker. His creations will be cherished by each of us.
Some of our most joyous memories include, playing money games with the hope of winning coins and dollars, barbecues outside on the patio, and listening to his stories from childhood. He had a captivating ability to tell his life’s experiences, sharing times when he was a “tender young lad” or “When I was a little girl”. Dad loved to visit. He also loved car rides in the canyons or road trips traveling around the country, and camping. He always had a smile, a hearty laugh and cheered up everyone with a joke. He often refused an offer of food saying, “no thanks, I just had a bar of soap.” Mostly he really enjoyed food, especially Mom’s dinners. He never wanted to know what she was making. He wanted it to be a surprise. He never complained and raved about everything that was made for him.
We loved him and felt loved by him. We will miss him and look forward to the day we can reunite in the next life.
