Grant Vincent Obituary

On March 20th (5 days before his 90th birthday) our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather peacefully passed away at the Pheasant Run Care Center in South Jordan, Utah.  He was born on March 25, 1928 in Cedar City, Utah to John Melvin and Agnes Mitchell Vincent.  Dad served an LDS mission in Southern California where he was asked to go forth “without purse or script” asking people for a meal and place to stay each night. On April 25, 1951 he married the love of his life, Thelma Phillips Vincent in the Salt Lake Temple and they were sealed for time and eternity by Spencer W. Kimball.   Grant and Thelma had five children: Darrel (Zena), Kent (Cindy), Jerry (Janean), Colleen (Jeff) McKay and Jeffery (Darlene).  Our parents currently have 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren whom they loved spending time with in their home in East Millcreek.

Dad was an active LDS father serving as a temple worker, stake high councilor, assistant scout master, home teacher and other callings.  He worked for Premium Oil Co. as a service station manager.  He taught his kids how to work and serve others by his example of helping neighbors and taking us to visit our grandparents every Sunday.  He was a people person as he loved to talk to everyone.  He taught us how to ski and enjoyed time with his family at our cabin in Park City.   Dad loved to fish where he often caught his limit of rainbow and brook trout trudging up and down the Weber River in his hip waders.  He enjoyed going to Utah football games working on the sideline chain marker crew with his brother Lee, and as a ball handler.  He was a master gardener with the best kept flower beds and yard on Keller Lane.  Dad loved the Lord.  We were touched by his prayers when he wept thanking Heavenly Father for all our family’s blessings and for his Son Jesus Christ.

Dad, we miss you and love you!  We are happy to know that you are receiving the best 90th birthday present ever – to be reunited with our mother and your eternal sweetheart, Thelma.
