Ila (Zimmerman) Clayton

Ila Zimmerman Clayton passed away August 15, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Ila was born on July 26, 1930 at home in Roosevelt, Utah.  She was the second of four children, the daughter of John Colburn Zimmerman and Gladys Worthen

Ila married Algene Kenneth Clayton on January 7, 1953 when Ken was on furlough from the Army.  Ila and Ken had seven sons, 21 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.  Family was always important to Ila, with her home open every Sunday evening when multiple generations would gather and visit.  She never missed a birthday, wedding or other family event.  Ken preceded her in death by almost 24 years.

Ila graduated with a nursing degree and worked as a nurse for some 30 years, most of them at St. Marks Hospital.  She served and helped the sick and elderly throughout her life, including many neighbors, friends and relatives.

Ila is preceded in death by her brother (Charles) and husband (Ken).  She is survived by her seven sons - Curt (Jeri), Ross (Shawn), Mark (Kathy), Dell (Karyn), Bret (Lisa), Jeff (Sarah) and Wynn (Kay) – and her brother (Dutch) and sister (Joan). 

A viewing will be held at Holbrook Mortuary on Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 6-8 pm at 3251 S. 2300 East.  The funeral will be held at 1 pm on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the LDS Chapel at 3070 E. Nila Way.  No viewing will be held prior to the funeral.  Ila will be interred in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
