Kathy Denise Curtis Goudy, age 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 13, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Elman Bates and Madalyn Laurene Huffman Curtis.
She married the love of her life, Samuel D. Goudy, Sr. April 10th, 2004. Sam was truly the answer to her many prayers. He loved her dearly and was very sweet and kind to her often referring to her as his “Toots”. They enjoyed each other’s company and loved their trips to Texas to visit family. Sam and Kathy loved those quiet mornings when they would grab a muffin and loaf of bread and go to the park to feed the ducks. She lost her Sweetheart of 14 years on March 23, 2018 only four months ago.
Kathy was a graduate of Highland High School and then attended the Trade Tech Community College where she received her business degree and she took additional training courses at LDS Business College.
Kathy worked at Sprouse Ritz for a few years and then went on to work at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for 35 years, in their genealogical department and was a major piece in designing the training manuals for the employees on looking up genealogy on the computer. She loved her work until she had to retire when she began to lose her eyesight. It was here that she gained her love of genealogy and did as much as she could until she could not see any more.
One of her greatest accomplishment, that she loved to talk about, was her two years of service in the Manchester England mission, where she served and loved the Lord and loved the people with all her heart and couldn’t wait to share her testimony. Upon returning home she served two additional stake missions continuing her love of the Lord. Kathy loved the church and held many church callings in teaching, but her favorite was teaching the children.
Kathy loved to be around family and couldn’t wait until the next family reunion, camping trip or holiday to be able to spend time with her children, grandchildren, sibling and nieces and nephews. She loved camping and being outdoors and Sam would often take her on many drives up the canyon whenever they could.
Kathy was an artist and loved to draw, paint, crochet, make ceramics, write poetry and sing. She always had her pitch pipe handy if someone wanted to sing a song.
She loved frogs and light houses and she had them all over her house! It was kind of whimsical to walk through and see them all.
She is preceded in death by her husband Samuel D. Goudy, Sr., father Elman B. Curtis, mother Madalyn Curtis, sisters Lynn Lougy and Janette M. Featherstone and nephew Maxillian Curtis and Amelia Featherstone. She is survived by brother-in-law Dennis Lougy, brothers Robert (Ronwen) Curtis, Christopher (Joyce) Curtis, Mark Curtis, Sisters Lorri (Gerlad) VanCott, Opal (Frank) Krause, brother David (Julie) Curtis and stepchildren, Dee (Jeanette) Goudy, Staci (Eric) Vowles, Jason (Sherrie) Goudy, Kerri (Glenn) Christensen, Joseph Goudy, and other stepchildren Cyndi (Alden) Desoto, Tammy (Alan) Munk and Debbie (Scott) Barrett 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to the staff at Country Pines Retirement Community and all those who worked with Kathy so patiently and lovingly through those difficult months, while helping her finish her journey her on earth.
