LaVerna Campbell Obituary

Our angel mother LaVerna Jones Campbell, age 92 passed away October 9, 2018 with loved ones near.

LaVerna was born September 26, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the 9th child of Joseph Porter Jones and Martha LaVerna Tolman. She grew up near Liberty Park and enjoyed playing tennis, ice skating, and riding her bike. She went to movies and USO dances with 10 high school girlfriends.

She graduated from South High School. She met Vere X Campbell on a blind date. They were married December 20, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had 5 children. LaVerna loved her children and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They filled her life with joy. She was good to remember birthdays with a card and hand colored thought card.

She reached out to others in friendship. She lived a positive life and had a fun sense of humor.

LaVerna enjoyed cross-stitch and embroidery. She created beautiful pictures that she displayed in her home. She painted watercolor pictures and cards that she gave to others. Her green thumb was evident by her gardens and beautiful house plants.

She was a faithful servant of her Heavenly Father. She worked in the primary for 30 years by serving in various callings such as a cub scout den leader, teacher, pianist, and stake primary president.

LaVerna enjoyed playing the piano and listening to the family sing. She learned the hymns at a young age and played them all of her life. They built the foundation of her testimony.

LaVerna was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and enjoyed the friendships that she made. She loved her ancestors and kept records of births, sealings, and deaths. She enjoyed reading the histories of her family.

She is survived by her daughter Kathy Horton (Dirk), and daughter Angela Jenson (Peter), daughter-in-law Kathi McEwan, son-in-law Robert Madsen, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents mentioned previously, and her five brothers, and three sisters, husband Vere X Campbell, son Galen Campbell, his wife Susan, Jared Campbell, and daughter Connie Madsen.

The family wishes to thank those who cared for her at “The Ridge Cottonwood” and “Brighton Hospice”.
