Randy J. Van Tienderen passed away on September 18, 2018, due to complications of chronic illness. He was born on April 21, 1960 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Randy was a friend to everyone who knew him, always eager to help those in need. His kindness and good nature affected those around him positively. In his youth, he was a gifted athlete in soccer, baseball, water and snow skiing, and he loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He attended Olympus High School and after high school was a successful salesman and worked in various construction positions. He was trained to fight forest fires and received the Fire Fighter of the Year award as a member of the Flame-N-Go’s. His life was rife with many challenges, but he never gave up trying to overcome them. He recently graduated from Drug Court, which is a merciful program to help those who are ready to overcome their addiction struggles. He lived his last few years in relative peace, with those who loved him.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Hank and Janet Van Tienderen, his sister Henny, and brother Cornelis. He is survived by his brothers Corry (Judy), Henry (Ruthann) and Ron (Wendy).
Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 24, 2018 at 11:00 am, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3101 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 am - 10:30 am prior to services at the church.
