Richard Muir Herman passed away April 6, 2017 at home in Salt Lake City.  He was born July 17, 1931 in LaMoure, North Dakota to Richard and Margaret (Muir) Herman.  He married Iris Simon in 1952.  Dick served in the US Air Force from 1951 through 1955.  He graduated from North Dakota State University in 1960 in Electrical Engineering and went to work for Hercules Powder Co. where he remained until retirement in 1992.  Dick also served in the ND Air National Guard and then transferred to the US Navy Reserves in 1963.  He retired a Navy Reserve Captain in 1986 after 35 years of military service.

Dick’s favorite pastime was boating; he spent many hours at Lake Powell; Flaming Gorge; Lake Sakakawea, North Dakota; and many other places.  Following retirement, he was happiest when the whole family gathered in his back yard for his annual Salmon dinner.  Having all his kids and grandchildren together was the highlight of his year.

Dick is survived by his children Jeffery (Kim) Herman, Pamela (David) Allison, and Daniel (Cheryl) Herman; his grandchildren Alaina and Rebecca Herman,  Jacob and Emma Allison, Geoffrey and Jillian Herman;  his brothers and sisters James (Mary Ann) Herman, Joan Souza, Thomas (Nancy) Herman, Margaret (William) Parrott, and Michael (Monica) Herman.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Iris, and by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 2375 E 3300 S, on Monday, April 24 at 12:00pm followed by a reception at 1:00pm.  Interment is at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors at 3:00pm.
