Russell Dean Lewis

Our beloved husband and dad left us on Sunday, September 16, 2018.  He was born to Mary Madora and Morgan Owen Lewis on June 19, 1919 in Sunnyside, Utah.  Russell always said he was born on the sunny side of Sunnyside.  He was #10 of 11 children.  Luella, Maurine, Glen, Alvin, Christopher, Vera, Mae, Mable, Ross and Cleo.  As a young man he served in the CCC.  He lived in several coal mining towns: Hiawatha, Columbia, Sunnyside, Ballard, American Fork and Price.  Russ was drafted into the Army Air Corps during WWII in LeMar, California and Deming, New Mexico.  He was an electrician by trade, his last job being at Hill Air Force Base.  Russ was a kind, quiet, friendly soul who was always ready to help anyone in need.  He loved working on cars and passed his mechanical knowledge on to his sons.  He always had a beautiful garden and shared the produce with neighbors and friends.

In his later years he was able to visit his ancestral home in Wales.  He also visited Guam, England and Hawaii where he went parasailing at 94 years of age.  In 2014 he went with the Honor Guard to Washington D.C.  This was a great honor and a highlight of his life.  His motto was “Activate or Deteriorate”.  He lived this motto right up until his death at 99 years of age.  Russ was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.

Survived by his wife; sons, Russell (Chris), Ronald and Paul; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sisters-in-law, Kathy Langue (George), Theresa King; many nieces and nephews with a special thanks to niece Mary Kemp and nephew Kerry Lewis for all their help in caring for Russ.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Imperial 2nd Ward, 2738 South Filmore Street.  Viewings will held at the church on Monday evening October 1, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Tuesday morning from 9:30 am to 10:30 am prior to the service.  Interment:  Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
