Our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Shannon Stewart Ludwig, 81, passed away peacefully in Salt Lake City, Utah, on December 8, 2017. Born to John (Jack) and LaVon Sparks Stewart on September 17, 1936, Shannon was the youngest of three children and the only daughter. She lived close to her roots her entire life. She loved growing up on her family’s small farm and working in the garden with her father.

Shannon graduated from Granite High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Paul Eugene Ludwig, on June 10, 1955, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

A mother to four children and widowed at age 38, Shannon cared for Paul for years while he battled cancer, then courageously raised her children alone, cared for her parents as they aged, and was always a faithful supporter of her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was employed at Granite School District and LDS Hospital. Shannon was proud of her Irish heritage. She loved flocks of flying geese, pinecones, and horse chestnuts–but her family most of all. She dedicated her life to her family and was the happiest when she was with them.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Craig, and brother Merlin. Survived by her children, Mrs. Craig (Paula) Ludwig, Kathleen (Dave) Miner (currently serving a mission in Russia), Brian (Laura) Ludwig, and Howard Ludwig, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and brother Ronald. Shannon was a caring grandmother to eleven and great-grandmother to three and an example of courage and strength to many. Shannon’s family would like to thank the staff and friends at Beehive Home of East Millcreek and Millcreek Hospice for the loving care they gave Shannon.
