On Saturday, March 21, 2020, Adrienne Valentine Runyon Pilz passed away peacefully in her Salt Lake City home. Sister Pilz, Grandma Pilz, or angel grandma as she was known, was not sick, or in ill health, but vibrant and energetic to the end. Others would often forget her age, because she had the energy, stamina, sparkle and spunk of someone much, much younger. She lived a beautiful life, and left a legacy of faith, love, work, and JOY. She lit up any room she entered. Her smile was contagious. How fitting for such a loving person to be born on Valentine’s Day, 82 years ago.
She dedicated her life to serving the Lord, her family, her friends and everyone around her. She served selflessly with her whole heart and soul. She was happiest when she was emulating her Savior and helping others. “Have I done any good in the world today?” was her daily moto. She loved her Savior and her posterity – seven wonderful children, 33 grandchildren and 27 (almost 29) great-grandchildren.
For the last sixteen years, after her loving husband and friend Jerry passed, Adrienne found joy in serving as a volunteer missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a family history instructor and researcher, working to perfect records on the World Family Tree. She served for 16 years, from 2004 until her passing.
There is great comfort in knowing Adrienne must have completed her work on the earth. She lived a good life. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” must have been the greeting as she was received in the arms of her Savior. Heavenly Father took her home to Him, and after 16 years, she is also reunited with her dear husband. What a joyful reunion!
Condolences may be needed, and Adrienne will be missed, but her life was something to be celebrated. Her legacy and love will live on forever. As her son-in-law so lovingly said, “Yes, I will miss her. But having her in my life was everything but a loss. She was my mom. I loved her and am forever changed because of her. Mom worked hard binding our family together in love. We are and always will be one.”
