Alvin “Al” Eugene Rust, age 94, passed on December 7, 2024, in Riverton, Utah. He was born on May 22, 1930, in Freewater, Oregon, to Jacob and Pauline (Raugust) Rust. Alvin married Lauretta Paxton on October 9, 1958.
Alvin was the founder of Rust Coin in Salt Lake and is currently in Provo as Freewater Coin Company, which is owned and operated by his grandson, Jacob. He was an avid fisherman and loved all sports. Al was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including as the Bishop of the original 19th Ward. He was a lifetime member of the Utah Numismatic Society. He often said, "I was lucky enough to turn a hobby into a successful business. I enjoyed going to work every day." He was also considered to be an "expert" in the area of Mormon money.
He is survived by his wife, Lauretta. Children: Gaylen Rust, Bryan (Tracie) Rust, Deanne (Kelly) Rust, Larene (Mike) Moreno, and Sherilee (Dean) Kazemini. Nineteen grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Al is also survived by his two sisters: Glenys (David) Becker and Wilma (Tony) Crisi, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was loved by all he knew and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Pauline (Raugust) Rust, older brother Leonard Rust, and grandson Brandon Bills.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Riverton 19th Ward building at 12830 South 2700 West in Riverton, Utah. A viewing before the funeral service from 9:00-10:30 a.m.
The interment will be at Kanosh City Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. December 14, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your favorite charity or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian fund.
