Barbara Spencer Obituary

Our loving mother, sister, and grandmother passed away peacefully on August 15th 2020, at age 85 in Grantsville, Utah. She was born on  January 1st 1935, in Echo, Utah to Floyd and Elva Nowling.

She graduated from North Summit High School in Coalville, Utah where she participated in pep club for 4 years. During her senior year she was royalty for the Summit County Fair.

She met her sweetheart and eternal companion, Glendon J. Spencer, while working as a waitress at the Kozy Cafe. They were happily married on August 28th 1954 and later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Barbara had a love for working with young children and worked at Edgemont Elementary for 18 years.

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Barbara served actively in a variety of church callings.  She was a Webelos Leader, Junior Sunday School Coordinator, Primary Teacher and loved serving wherever she was asked.

Barbara enjoyed Christmas books, trains, collecting dolls, and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved hard work and was still mowing her lawn way into her 70’s.

Patriotism was important to her. She loved the flag, patriotic music, and the 4th of July.

One of her greatest gifts was her ability to make everyone feel loved and special. Barbara enjoyed cooking Sunday family dinners. She was an excellent listener. Conversations always ended in an “I love you”. She was known for her hugs, treats, grandchildren sleepovers, and Easter egg hunts. Nothing was better than Grandma’s Bed and Breakfast.

We would like to thank the staff at Diamond Jane’s for the kindness, love, and care they gave our mom.

Barbara is loved by her daughters: Ann (Tom) Hansen, Jan (David) Griffiths, Lynne (Lester) Short, Lori (Carl) Koller, Jennifer (Charlie) Mohler; sisters: JoAnn Spencer, Linda Bagnell, Shanna Lucido; 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Glendon J. Spencer; by her daughter Lynne Short, and great-granddaughter Aurelia.

Grandma, you are truly unforgettable!
