Born October 18, 1949, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Passed away on March 4, 2024, Salt Lake City, Utah, at 74 years old.
Barbara was raised on the Tanner Homestead, a huge property that included the site where Cottonwood High School is now located. Through her grandfather’s care she learned to change truck tires, drive the hay truck, and prepare dinners by the 4th grade. She milked the cows and goats daily, and on Saturday morning, she bathed the puppies that her grandfather offered for sale, as it was the main income for their household.
Barbara graduated from Granite High School in June of 1968. She married Randy Scott Allred in 1970 and had a son. She eventually found work in the long-haul trucking industry, where she continued for many years. She then studied accounting at SLCC and worked in finance at Zions Bank, retiring in 2015.
Barbara was smart, capable, resilient, and determined. She handled her many medical challenges with great fortitude.
She loved the Savior and was always working to be a better disciple.
She enjoyed Church Temple Tours, weekly temple work, volunteering at the LDS Cannery, reading inspirational biographies, and traveling to visit family.
She is survived by her sister Lynn, son John H. Allred (Crystal) and granddaughter Jazmine H. Allred.
She is preceded in death by parents Merlin Vernon, and Maxine Giles Tanner, sisters Pattie and LaDonna, and husband Randy (d. 1979)
