Carol Elaine Peterson Christian, born November 25, 1926, in Fairview, Utah to Melvin Eugene Peterson and Irma Peterson, was reunited with her adoring husband on January 3, 2024. Being raised in rural Utah provided Carol with many opportunities to learn how to do different things. The division of labor in the 1920s often saw women working inside while men worked on the farm. Carol was often found outside working with her older brother Duane to care for the farm and its animals. And she wore pants!
On January 6, 1947, Carol married the love of her life, Lamoine Christian. Carol and Lamoine met while growing up in Fairview. Later, Carol joined Lamoine in California, where he was training as an opera singer. After deciding to marry, the lovebirds returned to Utah to start a family because they felt Utah was a better environment for raising children. The couple welcomed their oldest son to the family in 1948. In total, Carol and Lamoine had five children (Laine, Deborah, Carla, Tracy, and Drew).
As their children grew and married, Carol and Lamoine saw the family they started becoming even bigger with their home serving as the gathering point. The family environment Carol and Lamoine created featured Sunday dinners, cousins being your first best friend, and fierce loyalty to one another. Carol passed many lessons on to her children and grandchildren. She taught them the importance of grace under pressure, how to cook for a houseful of loved ones on a budget, the beauty of a handcrafted gift, and how to love.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lamoine, son Laine and daughter Carla, her son-in-law AB as well as her siblings Juanita, Arleen, Duane, Ila, and Gladys. Carol is survived by her children Deborah, Tracy (Jay), and Drew (Angie), daughter-in-law Mary Simmons, honorary son Marty Higham as well as 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Carol is also survived by her sister Peggy Poor, sister-in-law Joann Peterson, and brother-in-law Willy Ludskog.
The family would like to thank Carol’s longtime doctor Steven Wood, M.D., and Valeo Hospice for their kind and loving care.
Funeral services will be held at Holbrook Mortuary (3251 South 2300 East, East Millcreek). Friends and family are invited to celebrate Carol’s life beginning at 10:00AM on January 9th with funeral services beginning at 12:00PM. Carol will be interred at Wasatch Lawns Cemetery (3401 South Highland Drive, East Millcreek).
