Cecil Carroll Obituary

"Together Again"

Cecil Lewis Carroll passed away surrounded by family on October 22, 2019. He was born in Springfield, Missouri on April 6, 1952 to Mary Catherine Perryman and Johnny Anson Carroll, Jr. He was married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity to the love of his life, Sherri Collins, on June 22, 1979.

He earned the rank of Sergeant while serving in the Air Force as an aviation communications specialist during the Viet Nam era. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served a mission in South Africa. While attending BYU, he met Sherri through a mutual friend of theirs who set them up on a blind date. What started out as a morning date, turned into an all-day date, followed by attending a BYU basketball game together soon after.

After getting married, Cecil and Sherri had three children: John, Andi, and Erin. Family was everything to him. He made every effort to always be there for family dinners on Sunday as well as every birthday, holiday, and family event. His love for his wife Sherri showed in all that he did. Cecil would always make sure that during the holidays Sherri’s and his favorite Christmas music was played at family gatherings and even after Sherri had passed, he would sit with the grandkids and play her favorite music and tell us all stories of their life and love. He never missed a chance to tell his children and grandchildren how much he loved them, and would tell anyone who would listen about each of his grandchildren and what he loved about them. His favorite vacations involved taking his wife and kids on road trips to visit family out of state.

Cecil was an avid reader, Beatles fan, and sci-fi fan. He would always carry a book with him and could regularly be seen reading a book, while watching a show on TV, insisting he was paying attention to both. He shared his passion for reading with his children by regularly taking them to bookstores to pick out new books to read.

He loved BYU football and held season tickets since the stadium was expanded in 1982, never missing a home game until his health declined. He shared his love of BYU football with his kids. While his son shared his love of BYU football, his girls loved attending the games to spend time with their father.

He held a number of positions within the phone company over the years, before retiring from CenturyLink after 30 years of service.

Cecil is survived by his parents, siblings: Diana and Rick; half-siblings: Tony, Tim, and Tina (Ron); children: John (Sarah), Andi (Brendon), and Erin; grandchildren: Robbie, Emery, Lindsey, Connor, Ella, and Jocelyn; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, step-mother Edith Carroll, grandparents, and other beloved family members.

Cecil will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of us, but will live on in our hearts.

The family would like to thank Summit Senior Living and Symbii Home Health and Hospice for the excellent care they provided for him.
