Dale Springer Obituary

Dale Lyman Springer was born to goodly parents Jay Reed Springer and Fannie Lyman Springer on August 15, 1932. He passed away on January 3, 2022 at home, and in the care of his loving wife of 64 years, Kareen. He was born in Park City, UT, the oldest of 7 children, and lived in Salt Lake City and Teasdale, Utah before the family settled in Granite, now Sandy Utah. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1951 (a proud Beetdigger) and then enlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, serving as an officer in the military police. He was stationed in England where his unit had the honor of marching in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Dale met Kareen O’Brien on a blind date to attend the April General Conference in 1957.  She was visiting from California and after that first encounter, most of their short courtship continued through letters and phone calls. Romance blossomed quickly into marriage and they were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on December 12, 1957. They were blessed with a beautiful, caring posterity of 8 children, 31 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren, with another on the way. Along the way, they developed many deep and lasting friendships and associations, including “adopting” an additional adult son.

Dale attended Brigham Young University, graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He started his teaching career in Wayne County, UT, where he had lived as a child. He taught social studies, history and driver’s education. His love of, and ties to Southern Utah continued throughout his life.

From his youth, Dale was a hard worker. That work ethic allowed him to accomplish one of his dreams of a small family farm and orchard in Granite. He demonstrated that same work ethic in other aspects of his life. During most of his marriage, he held two full-time jobs. His teaching evolved to instructing students in the Granite School District home and hospital program. He also had a career in the Security Department for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was blessed to assist the top leadership of the Church. This afforded him the opportunity to travel throughout the world and experience the Church globally.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dale faithfully served in many church callings - some of which included a Counselor in the Bishopric at the Utah State Prison, Stake Patriarch, and with Kareen: a full-time service mission at the BYU Jerusalem Center where he also served as a District Patriarch. They also served as Temple Workers in the Jordan River Temple, and an Ogden Inner City Mission.

Dale is remembered as a man of committed and enduring faith, having integrity and great devotion to his loved ones. He loved and served his immediate and extended family throughout his life. Dale is survived by his wife Kareen, their children Kevin (Kim), Kyle, Kendall (Lorie), Kari (Gene) Miller, Patrick (Karyn), Kim (Jim) McKenna, Kris (Jen), Clement, and Kelly (Amy), 31 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, as well as his siblings Verla Larson, John (Mary), and Lydia (Dallas) Anderson. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Betty Jean Springer and Geraldine Paulsen, as well as his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry Deon and Carol Springer.
