Douglas Skene passed away peacefully March 2, 2022, of natural causes. He was raised in very humble surroundings and was a strong example of hard work and the success it could bring. He grew up near Nibley Golf Course and learned to golf and sometimes caddied at an early age. He was fiercely independent and made no excuses and always did what needed to be done.
Dad served in the military in the mid-1950’s while stationed in Germany. He was mechanically gifted and owned and operated a Chevron auto service and mechanical repair station for many years and was always there to diagnose and repair family members and friends’ autos. Later in life, he worked for Salt Lake City Public Utilities where he oversaw the operation and management of the Water Department’s canal systems.
He was always prompt, very organized and spotless in everything he did. His work ethic was reflected in the 9 children he raised (Lynn, Karen, Danny, Brad, Cyndee, Terri, Paul, Pamela & Jennifer). His hobbies included golf, making and being with friends, watching football, the Jazz and Utes. Dad loved the companionship of dogs, especially German Shepherds. He also enjoyed a good burger with garlic, very spicy food that required always having a large bottle of Tabasco nearby, Bob Ross art, talk radio, Scottish bagpipes, boogie woogie and country music. Dad looked forward to seeing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dad is survived by 9 children and spouses, 20 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and most recently his favorite cousin, Bob. Internment will be at Mt. Olivet in Salt Lake City, UT, at a later date.
