Elaine Taylor Obituary

Our loving mother, grandmother, and friend, Elaine Wallin Taylor (98), passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025.  Elaine was born the youngest of six children in Tooele, Utah, on May 24, 1926, to Jennie Eckman and Alvin Wilford Wallin.  She was raised in Tooele and graduated from Tooele High School in 1944. Following graduation, Elaine was accepted into the University of Utah Cadet Corps Nursing Program, a government training program for nurses who would eventually serve in the armed services during World War II.  She never went into active service, however, because the war ended before she completed the three-year program.

At the conclusion of the war, Elaine renewed her friendship with a dashing 2nd Lieutenant, Frank Taylor.  They fell in love and were married on November 29, 1947, and were blessed with three children.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.  Frank and Elaine were married 5 days short of 71 years and were an amazing example of love and devotion.

They made their first home in Logan, Utah, where Frank attended Utah State University.  After his graduation, they moved their family to Salt Lake City, where he worked for Utah Power and Light.  During their marriage, Elaine used her nursing skills working part time for Dr T. E Robinson for 43 years.  She also happily served as the family and neighborhood nurse, spending time compassionately attending to those in need.  In what she considered the pinnacle of her nursing career, Elaine was asked to be one of the special nurses who cared for LDS Church President David O. McKay and his wife in 1967.

Elaine was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many Ward and Stake callings in the Relief Society, Young Women’s and Primary Organizations, often with her husband Frank acting as her unofficial assistant or counselor.  She also served as a Temple Worker in the Salt Lake Temple and as a missionary in the Church History Department.

Elaine and Frank loved to be together and enjoyed traveling, golfing, skiing, and spending time at their vacation home in St. George.  They especially loved dancing and were expert ballroom and square dancers.  They were active in many dance groups and served on the National Square Dance Committee.  In their later years, they took up online dancing and enjoyed dancing at the local senior center into their late 80s.

Elaine is survived by her daughter-in-law Carla Taylor, son Jerry (Joan) Taylor, daughter (Sha) Sharilyn (Jim) Brammer, 7 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Margaret Krebs Midgley and Bernice Gilmore, brothers Alvin, Marvin, and Robert Wallin, son Brent Taylor and granddaughter Jeannine Taylor.

Elaine was an exceptionally loving, kind, and caring woman who was deeply devoted to her husband and family.  We will all miss her and are so grateful for the legacy and example that she has left for her posterity and everyone who knew her.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Wellington Senior Living Center for the care that they provided for the last 18 months.
