She had eight brothers and one sister. Elda was born to humble beginnings. She often recounted the hardships of her family during the Great Depression.
On July 26, 1946, Elda was sealed to her eternal companion, Blaine Warren Martell in the Manti, Utah Temple. Together they raised four children in Santaquin, Utah. She had a passion for raising her children in a nurturing and loving home. Her greatest love was being around her family and friends.
Elda served faithfully in many Latter-day Saint church callings and served in both the Salt Lake and Manti Temple. Elda was a selfless, Christ-like person who had a gift for making others feel special. No matter what, she always showed genuine love and concern for others.
Having lived through the Great Depression, Elda was very resourceful and enjoyed sewing. She even sewed her own wedding dress from a parachute her brother had given her from World War 2. One of her greatest joys was living in St. George, Utah and feeling the warm sunshine while enjoying the desert views from her porch. Elda had a love for painting beautiful watercolor landscapes. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, line dancing, and snacking on cookies. Elda never missed a game cheering for her favorite basketball team, the Utah Jazz.
Elda is preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, and her eternal companion. She is survived by her children: Rebecca (Roger) Hurst, Sterling (Carrie) Martell, Barbara Martell, and Gordon (Kristee) Martell; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
