Jacqueline Schorr Buchan
November 1, 1936 – April 10, 2023
Our loving and fun mom, sister, grandma, aunt and friend Jacqueline Melitta Maria Schorr Buchan passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023 in her home surrounded by family.
Jackie was born on November 1, 1936 in West Jordan, Utah to Annaliese and Hans Schorr who raised their family in areas of Salt Lake county. She was the oldest of the four “Schorr Sisters”, who she loved laughing with and reminiscing.
Jackie loved being a teen in the fifties. “I felt the fifties were a fantastic, special era to grow up in. It was truly a teenager’s dream – the styles, the music, the dance – I loved it! Lots of jitterbug, lots of movies!”
She was both a Granite High School Farmer and an Olympus High School Titan where she participated in Acapella Choir and Pep Club. She proudly claims being part of Olympus’ first graduating class in 1954, who chose the school’s colors, mascot and school song. During her remaining days, friends from her high school lunch group still stopped by for lunch. She later attended the University of Utah.
On November 5, 1960, she married Norman M. Buchan in Salt Lake City, Utah with whom she had five children.
She appreciated her German heritage, which influenced her strong work ethic, independence, a love for Santa Claus and Christmas (especially O Tannenbaum), keeping all things sparkling clean and her love for sauerkraut, brats and pickles!
At Jackie’s very core was her love for her family and others. She created a house that was “a home” - full of good food, traditions, and people. She loved hosting parties in her home or on its back deck. She decorated for each holiday, had a garden bursting with flowers and a kitchen counter that was home to numerous buffets and school projects. Her facial expressions and laughter always made you smile. She found the excuse to shop for a new dress or outfit for any occasion. Her grandchildren fondly call her “Wackie Jackie” because they knew if she was nearby they would have a funny, memorable experience.
Jackie tried to center her life honoring God. She served diligently on many PTA boards and in church leadership callings with the youth and children. She served a genealogy mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Our dear mom will be deeply missed and is survived by her five children, Joey Buchan (Rebecca), Lisa Bendall, Stephanie DeMordaunt (Quinn), Kevin Buchan, Kristine Ockey (BJ); her 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; and her sister Jeannette Lear. She is preceded in death by her husband, beloved parents and her sisters Judy Kennedy and Julie Stallsmith.
Mom, although your physical heart gave out, your heart’s love will continue to beat adoringly in the hearts you touched! We love and miss you!
Thank you to her wonderful caregivers Sandra, Rosie, and Chantelle and her physicians Edward C. Miner and Dr. Reid B. Hales for their personal attention and love for our mom.
