Joy was born on a beautiful summer day, June 12, 1935 in Los Angeles, California to Clarence Orlando Eastman and Olive Wakefield Eastman. She passed away peacefully on an equally beautiful fall day, September 12, 2021.
As a young girl she moved from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City along with her parents, her two older brothers, Bill and Norm Grange and her older sister Marjorie Eastman. At the age of 10 she was blessed with a younger sister, Rae (Tinker) Butterfield. They were very close.
She attended West High School. On New Year's Eve 1951 she met Julian Edward "Duke" Ferguson at the movie theater. They quickly became inseparable. At the prompting of her soon to be new father-in-law she and Duke were married on September 5, 1952 in the Ferguson home in Woods Cross, Utah.
Duke and Joy were the loving parents of four children; Clarence "Ted", Steve, Julie, and David. They all shared fun memories of family vacations, camping trips and wonderful surprise Christmases.
She enjoyed traveling and spending the winters as snowbirds in Mesquite and eating out.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her older siblings, her loving husband, her oldest son Clarence, and her grandchildren Melissa (Jason) Roberts and Matthew Ferguson. She is survived by her sons Steve (Judy), David (Natalie), her daughter Julie (Robert) Rose, 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
We will celebrate her life at a graveside service at Valley View Memorial Park, 4100 South 4400 West, on Saturday, September 18, 2021. Friends will visit with the family from 10:30-11:30 with the service following at 11:30. Online memories and tributes can be posted at www.holbrookmortuary.com.
