LaVon Chambers Johnson was born in Salt Lake City on September 28, 1936 to Tekla Drechsel Chambers and Herbert Chambers. She attended West High School and later married Ronald John Johnson in 1956. She was employed by the State of Utah Work Force Services retiring after 30 years. Ron and LaVon resided in Holladay, Utah where she passed away on June 30, 2021.
LaVon approached life with passion and determination. She supported her five children, 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren in many special activities. She instilled a strong work ethic in her family. She was proud of her children and loved sharing boastful moments.
One of LaVon’s favorite activities was traveling. She especially loved cruises sailing from Alaska to the Panama Canal, also visiting relatives in Germany and Hawaii.
LaVon was an active person and liked to be on the go even up to the last few days. She enjoyed daily rides in the car. She also looked forward to socializing with friends and family, attending parties, bowling, boating, horseshoeing, and stitching. She is at peace now with her beloved Mother, Tekla Drechsel and Grandmother Alma Martha Knorr Drechsel
LaVon is survived by her husband Ronald Johnson as well as her children: Gary Johnson, Sherrie Jackman (Ken), Jimmie Scott Johnson (Janet), Brent Johnson (Cynthia), Jolene Brown (Michael), 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, brother Donald (Patsy) and sister E’layne Green and several hidden treasures rumored to be Gary John’s baby teeth, t-ball trophies, bargello and a lock of Jody’s hair. Preceded in death by parents, brother Armand Miller and Stan Chambers.
Graveside services are on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Salt Lake City Cemetery (Cemetery Entrance: 200 North “N” Street, S.L.C. within the cemetery the grave is located at approx. 355 North 1100 East), followed by a celebration of life at the Ronald and LaVon Johnson residence. Friends may visit on Monday, July 5, 2021 from 6 pm - 8 pm and Tuesday, July 6 from 11 am - noon at Holbrook Mortuary (3251 S. 2300 E., S.L.C.)
