Lila White Obituary

Lila Turnbow White was called home to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 15, 2023. She went peacefully with family by her side.

Born September 3, 1929, to Parley Nathaniel Turnbow and Nina Pearl Reid in Hanna, Utah. Lila was the last of eight children: Burnell (Jennette) Turnbow, Leo (Florence) Turnbow, Edna (Bill) Nichols, Verda (Stan) Pickett, Afton (Loren) Ashcraft, Nina (Charles) White, Bernice (Myron) White. What a wonderful reunion she is having with her husband, parents, siblings and family members.

Lila married Stephen Leigh White on December 29, 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple. The marriage joined two families into one. Lila brought Peter and Nena to the family, and Stephen brought Claudia, Lee and Les. Later Stephen and Lila had a final child, Alan. Even though on paper the family was “yours, mine and ours,” in spirit they always strived to be one united, eternal family.

As a woman of great faith, Lila always tried to follow her Savior, Jesus Christ. She held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints including that of a missionary in the Northwestern States Mission, Primary President, Young Women’s President, Relief Society President, seminary teacher and temple worker. Her greatest calling may have been as a humble and powerful teacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She taught wherever she went by the Spirit in memorable ways. She had the faith to pray and receive answers to her prayers.

Lila enjoyed time spent with her family, making delicious meals, reading, and bottling produce from her garden. She especially enjoyed being on Tabby Mountain. She spent much of her time serving others.

She is survived by five children: Peter Wayne (Phoungpaka) Willden, Nena (Rick) Maw, Alan Leigh (Sheryl) White, Gordon Lee (Jacqueline) White, Stephen Leslie (Kathy) White, and sister- in-law Florence Turnbow; along with 27 grandchildren, 95 great grandchildren, 85 great great grandchildren and 10 great great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her eternal companion Stephen, her parents and siblings, Claudia Brown, one grandchild, two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday November 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake Kenwood 1st Ward, 3080 South 1765 East. A viewing will be held at the church the night before from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. Saturday prior to the service.
