Lois Buxton Obituary

Our beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend passed away on October 16, 2021, at the age of 94 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Lois will be remembered for her kind and generous heart, her lifelong devotion to her family, and for her joyful spirit.

Lois was born on the family farm in West Layton, Utah to Emma Alice and Richard Murland Stevenson on December 30, 1926. She attended Davis High School and was a lifelong fan of the Davis Darts. Lois then attended Utah State University and enjoyed an affiliation with the Chi Omega Sorority during her time at USU. She went on to spend her entire career working at and pouring her love into Utah Federal Credit Union where she was adored by all credit union members.

On a blind date, Lois met and fell in love with her sweetheart, Al Buxton. They were married on May 21, 1955 in Nevada. Lois and Al made their home in the Salt Lake neighborhood of Rose Park where they raised their three girls. While Lois remained a resident of Salt Lake City for the rest of her life, she remained deeply fond of West Layton, its farms, and fruit stands. She never missed a Layton peach season at Manning’s Orchard.

Al and Lois enjoyed constant adventures road tripping across the United States visiting various national parks and other sites in Al’s famous “Al Van.” They were both devoted members of the University of Utah’s Crimson Club and never missed a Utah Football game and tailgate.

Lois lived a life full of compassion, kindness, and love for all those around her. She was truly the heart and soul of her family often found running her grandchildren to school or soccer games, organizing family vacations, and in the front row at dance recitals. While not a cook herself, Lois always found reasons to get her family gathered around a table for a meal whether that be for Saturday breakfast at George’s or dinner at Silvester’s Mexican restaurant.

She was preceded in death by her husband Al Buxton, brother Robert Stevenson, and her sister Ester Worsley. Lois is survived by her sister Joyce Fredde, daughters Christine Connors, Cindy Voss (Steve), and Robyn Schreiter (Randy) as well as 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

At mom’s request and due to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic the graveside service will be held at a later date. Mom’s lifelong motto was that “life is too short, always eat dessert first” so please enjoy a slice of lemon pie without the meringue in memory of her.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
