Marilyn C. Child returned to her Heavenly Father on the morning of April 25, 2019 in West Jordan, Utah at the age of 89. Marilyn was born in Salt Lake City to Alva and Myreel Curtis in 1929.
She is survived by son Michael Davis (Kimberly), daughter-in-law Patsy Child, daughters Annette Burns and Julia Blair (Chuck), siblings Gordon Curtis (Betty), Gerald Curtis (Sally), Sara Beckstrom (Glenn), and David Curtis (Sherry). Marilyn is survived by seven grandchildren: Amy Child (Marci), Daniel Child (Alexis), Derrick Child (Brita), Sarah Beecroft (Bryan), Diana Smith (Dale), Miranda Burdett (Wesley), and Brian Burns. She is also survived by five great grandchildren: Kayla, Boston, Baylee, Nash, and a baby girl to be born in June.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond Julius Child, stepson Michael Raymond Child, grandson Eric Blair, and siblings Jean Barger (Don), Richard Curtis, Gloria Gough (Eldo), sister-in-law Daphna Curtis.
Marilyn grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from Granite High School. She worked in a grocery store and was one of the first meat wrappers in Utah. In 1960, she was introduced to Raymond Child by her brother Gordon. Marilyn and Ray were married in January 1961 in Salt Lake City. They were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple precisely two years later.
Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She never missed any of her children’s activities in school or church. She always kept her home spotless and well organized and loved decorating extensively for every holiday. She adored music, sang with the Symphony Singers, and played the piano in Primary for many years. Marilyn had a beautiful alto voice. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She also was deeply involved with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Marilyn held offices in the Salt Lake Council of Women and the University of Utah Mothers’ Club. She enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing and camping in the High Uintas with her family and friends.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at Summit Senior Living for the care and friendship they offered to Marilyn.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday May 3, 2019 at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, where friends may visit with the family on Thursday evening May 2, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
