Mark David Bain

November 23, 1961 ~ May 15, 2022 (age 60)

Obituary

Mark David Bain, a gentle, kind, and perennially happy soul, passed away at home on May 15, 2022, greeted beyond the veil by his loving parents, grandparents and a beloved brother Donnie who preceded him in death.

Mark was born to Dale and Lois Bain on November 23, 1961. He was the fourth of five Bain children, who welcomed Mark’s tender and naturally joyful spirit, often celebrating his birthday on Thanksgiving, an appropriate tribute to Mark’s pleasant personality. He enjoyed summers boating and waterskiing at Utah Lake with his family, working at his family’s pharmacy, running his own window blinds company, where his lightning-fast installations were legend and working computer technology, including the “Geek Squad”. Mark was an exceptional cook at Dee’s Family Restaurant, forming life-long friendships with customers.

Mark was at home in nature and enjoyed the simple pleasures of an unpretentious life. Mark relished the company and conversations with dear friends, the songs of chirping birds, the faithful companionship of his “furry children”, Runt, Jazz, Bert, Ginger, Luna and his daddy’s girl “Gaia”, and just puttering around the house.

He created beauty by gardening and building water features, working on jigsaw puzzles, and reading. He was most content when in the joyful company of Paul and their good friends watching a Jazz game with a bag of chips and snacks in hand. He marveled at beautiful sunrises, the tranquility of sunsets, rain on the roof, and gently falling snow on a winter day.

Mark is a kindhearted soul and was always quick to lend a hand and a smile to those in need. Throughout his life he was a constant and faithful support to his entire family. When he was young he often gladly accompanied his older sister Janet to church activities. He also opened his home to his brother Rob and sister Kari before he passed away. Mark continued his selfless service throughout his life giving of himself to support and sponsor others in Alcoholics Anonymous, helping neighbors and his close-knit family of friends. His 15 years of sobriety--after decades of battling alcoholism--are an ongoing tribute to the brilliance of the AA mission and the unmatched power of a truly humble spirit that genuinely seeks to change.

As a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mark knew and loved his Savior Jesus Christ, firm in his faith of a glorious, universal resurrection. Mark’s receipt of temple ordinances at age 54 serves as an inspiring example of how no day is too late to deepen one’s spiritual devotions. He cherished his sealing to his parents Dale and Lois in the Salt Lake Temple.

Mark is survived by his partner Paul Scott, his brother Rob, his sister Janet (Hal) Reiser, his sister Kari and nieces and nephews whom he loved and who loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022 at the LDS Chapel at 2702 South Evergreen Avenue. Internment will be at the Murray City Cemetery, 5490 South Vine Street, Murray, Utah.
